Through the highs, lows & in-between, no matter the market conditions, sentiments or other unrelated affairs going on outside the space.
Disruptive innovations built within the blockchain industry, will continue and leave only the strongest, sustainable, scalable projects left standing. Horizen Ecosystem is always building, improving, listening, engaging, growing. Once a builder, always a builder.

I wanted to introduce myself, “DeFi Money-Printer” (Youtube, Telegram, Discord (DeFi Money-Printer#9794), Medium) aka “DeFi FUD-Destroyer” @DeFiFUDDestroy (Twitter).
I’ve recently joined the ranks of Zenvangelists in the Horizen Ambassador Program a distributed group of passionate contributors. It’s quite an honor to be collaborating amongst what I consider to be the most transparent, forward thinking, inclusive, and “big-brained” team I’ve encountered and interacted with in the blockchain space. Worthy of such a great recognition considering that I’m now approaching nine years involved in the space at least at some capacity, and proud OG Zencash/Horizen supporter since May 2017 launch!
My true passion within cryptocurrency is certainly learning the tech behind blockchain, when my contributions to the distributed networks began to accelerate in 2017, soon after I first learned about Ethereum. As a broke college kid, with limited disposable income, I sought after the many other ways to earn crypto. At this time, mining Ethereum had just begun trending alongside the rising markets.
I dove headfirst into the GPU and CPU mining space: full of trial and error, building, learning and earning. Unfortunately, at the time my small rebuilt computer ran into several driver issues attempting to mine Ethereum with just one GPU. To make a long story short, about a month had passed since the great dive into the GPU mining sea of learning, which mostly consisted of mining ZCash (Equihash).
I then received notice that my preferred currency exchange would support the soon fork of ZClassic that is the Horizen we know today (previously ZenCash). This announcement of Zencash support was a catalyst for learning about ZEN.
I had failed early on to set up GPU mining Ethereum, and since had already ventured off to mining other alternative currencies. Speculatively mining these “Alts” in the hopes that one day would rise as a similar fashion as the Bitcoin, Ethereum and other proof of work GPU minable coin markets that were “hot” — I wanted to find the gem in the rough, yet to be found.
I had been mining ZCash for just a few weeks now, and near after hearing about ZenCash, I learned ZEN mining algorithms to be the same (Equihash). It was an easy switch to ZEN to test it out with the few GPUs I had hashing away. Once I tried it and got involved — I was hooked right in.
Back in the early ZenCash days: The Slack messaging app was the team and community stomping grounds. The weekly insiders you can participate every Monday with Horizen these days, were then called “bi-weekly Dev updates” featuring Rob, Rolf and the other founding core members of the early dev team. The consistent team & community transparency meetings with frequent engagement have always stood out to me.
Thinking back to these days brings great nostalgia. Since then, I have yet to encounter another project team and community comparable to Horizen. First class in transparency, community inclusion and forward thinking to improve the project and ecosystem. Consistency and future focus are major keys here.
As Horizen’s 5th birthday soon approaches, I am surely impressed with the ecosystem’s progress and changes for the better. The core foundations which were built early on have sustained and grown even stronger. Thinking back to the first announcement of collaboration with IOHK in R&D and collaborative design of the Zendoo Whitepaper, another nostalgic moment in Horizen’s project history. This disruptive innovation has taken years of research, development, testing and perfecting the programmable “internet of blockchains” which is Zendoo.
Any user, company, project, individual, group can build their own customizable blockchain Zendoo sidechain with its own consensus mechanism, public or privacy (zero-knowledge) optional, interoperable with other sidechains, and secured by Horizen’s hybrid model of proof-of-work and multi-tiered secure node system creating one of the largest node networks in the blockchain space approaching nearly 50,000 nodes distributed on the Horizen blockchain.
Quite an amazing accomplishment for the decentralization of the ecosystem. The road to full decentralization with a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) designed to bring governance to the community steering the future of Horizen’s development starts with the Horizen Community Council.

Most recently, the Zendoo EVM chain and TokenMint chains being developed and tested internally on the Zendoo Testnet, and by the community with the TokenMint Testnet and Test Pilot program being rolled out. There is surely plenty of reasons to be excited for the future of Horizen and Zendoo protocol.
Horizen stands firm on the strong foundations of team operations, active loyal community, robust network of full, secure, super nodes, proof of work mining, and the vast adoption of ZEN on many exchanges and services around the world.
Decentralized exchanges, lending protocols, NFTs, marketplaces, metaverse, gaming, business applications, government applications and any other ideas developers, other institutional groups or anyone in between may imagine. The Zendoo ecosystem of programmable blockchain dApps, tokens, NFTs, launchpads, bridges, marketplaces, games, DeFi & more has only just begun!
